CARDIFF SHOPPING

Cardiff has an abundance of shops to suit all tastes.

Explore the traditional arcades such as The Royal Arcade, Duke Street Arcade or Castle Arcade - opposite
Cardiff castle, or the larger Cardiff shopping complexes such as Queens Arcade or St Davids 2.
Cardiff Indoor Market

Cardiff Market is an impressive Victorian structure which offers
a unique shopping experience in the heart of a modern,
bustling city. Under one great glass roof you will find a wealth
of products ranging from pots and pans to bread and butter,
and from nuts and bolts to rock and roll.

Cardiff Market has been trading in one form or another since
the 1700s. It has occupied the same site for over 100 years
and although you will no longer find livestock tethered and
penned outside its doors, some of the old features remain to
this day.

St Davids 2 Shopping Centre

The vision was one of a unique shopping, leisure, cultural and
tourist destination created by the regeneration of the heart of
the city centre - transforming Cardiff into one of the most
dynamic cities in Europe.

St David’s has helped Cardiff to become a leading European
destination - confirming its position as a gateway to Wales and
all that the country has to offer. Those who visit Cardiff or work
and live in and around the city enjoy the benefits that St David’s
brings.

The cost of the build project was £675 million.

The Royal Arcade
The Cardiff Arcade Co was established in 1858 for the
purpose of erecting an arcade - the Royal Arcade - to connect
The Hayes and St Mary Street. It was Cardiff’s first indoor
shopping arcade helping to significantly increase the number
of shops available.

In 1879 David Morgan (1833-1919) opened the store David
Morgan in The Hayes, catering mainly for the drapery trade. He
opened a 2nd shop in St Mary Street in 1898 accessible from
The Hayes by way of the Morgan Arcade (initially called the
New Central Arcade, begun in 1896 and completed 1899). The
Morgan Arcade ran parallel to the Royal Arcade.
